Another day out

We DID get to go out to Tybee Island on Sunday  - an island on the ocean that is about 18 miles from here.   On the way out, from a bridge we saw some ocean vessels waiting to head into or out of Savannah and some shrimp boats just arriving back from shrimping.  Birds were everywhere, following them as they culled their catch.

When we first got to Tybee Island, the town, we parked and walked near a lighthouse.

While we walked, Tom noticed something that smelled really good.   It turned out to be the blooms on a palm tree, maybe flowers that would become dates.

I liked seeing this short palm too so you get to see its picture.

We took some beach chairs we picked up a few weeks ago and sat on the sand and watched the ocean.

Although the water wasn't as inviting as at other places (There were signs all along that said "Beware of submerged objects.")   some people stayed near the edge and enjoyed the water.    We sat and watched all for a while, then walked the beach.

Just a little way back from Tybee Island, Tom saw the sign for a place he had eaten at last year and enjoyed so we went there.     It turned out to be a very fun place, surrounded by alligaters and birds and funky signs set under a lot of live oaks.    Very popular, apparently.   The food also was really good and fresh - not all fried this and that.

We decided to head back toward "home" to visit a hardware store and get some groceries, something we hadn't done in a long time, just every other day for weeks, you know.

Monday, I finished applying finish to exterior wood just before the rains came.  I think the wood is okay.    Tom has been working very hard doing computer work for the company he works for - keeping money coming in for when we have to pay up here.

Today, Tuesday, it's raining and nicely cool.  Very nice down time from looking for something strenuous to do.

So glad to know you are among the living! I have never heard of Tybee Island. Enjoyed all your pics. Good you had a free day from work. Are you having just rain? We have had thunder storms every night and off and on today. Poor Tom. Retired but still working. Will you be able to see Fireworks Thursday night? Nothing new here. They are trying to paint our building but rain, rain, rain! Take care and keep sending pics for us to see. Love.

We hear thunder, but it doesn't feel like storms, just light bouts of rain. We hear there are firework displays several places, one near here tonight. Think we'll try to see it from the dinghy on the water. Yes, not a good time to paint for sure. I think we're taking a few items off the boat and into a building over the weekend for sand and paint, just to keep them dry for the process.

The birds are really amazing to watch. They are like a swarm of flies. It's a commonplace thing to see, I suppose, for a person accustomed to the ocean and living on the shore, but I see that and imagine what a neat photograph that might make.
